The Challenge
Facing public scrutiny, a major network and production company sought our guidance regarding how they could foster inclusivity and create a safe and welcoming atmosphere on the production of their flagship television show manage the image and reputation of the show going forward.
How We Helped
Our collaborative efforts focused on three key objectives:
Educating the entire crew on fostering an inclusive culture
Ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone on set, and
Managing the show’s image and reputation
We initiated annual workshops addressing unconscious bias and ways to create inclusive work environments for the crew, providing essential tools for navigating sensitive issues on set. Additionally, we conducted individual coaching sessions with talent, offering a safe space for dialogue and education on challenging DEI topics in the media. During the television show's production, our on-set consulting played a pivotal role. We collaborated with the legal and standards & practices groups to review wardrobe, dialogue, and contestant acts, ensuring alignment with inclusivity standards. Episode screenings before airing and ongoing monitoring of social media and press allowed us to proactively identify and propose strategies to address any potential reputation risks.
The Impact
The impact of our partnership has been significant. In the four years since we started working with the show, there has been a notable shift in the culture to a much warmer and more inclusive environment for talent and the crew and an absence of major DEI-related incidents. Furthermore, producers and talent are now well-versed in contemporary DEI language and issues relating to race, gender, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, among many others, facilitating more informed and respectful interactions across the board.
